From spearheading investigations into low water levels, to pressing for revised ballast water regulations, we have worked tirelessly for Georgian Bay's preservation and heritage status.
GOOD STUFF
- Several of our Directors were responsible for establishing the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO
- Leading research on the St. Clair River's role in decreasing water levels
- Creating the Primary Wetlands Research Project to identify, catalogue and protect Georgian Bay wetlands
- Introducing the Adopt A Wetland project, so families can get involved in gathering data on their local wetlands
- Monitoring invasive species through water quality and wetlands monitoring programs
- Communicating the urgent need for ballast water treatment regulations on all ships entering the Great Lakes
- Driving volunteer-based water quality research and public education to reduce impacts of shoreline development
- Investing in and coordinating the installation and maintenance of a new federal outside boating channel along eastern and northern shores of Georgian Bay
- Sponsoring regional conferences, workshops and seminars to alert people about water protection issues
- Fostering our relationships with other US and Canadian Great Lakes ENGOs (Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations) and working together on the current low water levels crisis
