- Intra-basin transfers, where water is moved from one Great Lake watershed (usually Lake Huron's) to another, have an impact on water levels and can threaten ecosystems both on the giving and receiving end. A small number of these transfers currently exist, but the Ontario Ministry of the Environment is now considering simply managing these transfers. What we need is an outright ban on Intra-basin transfers
- Parts of the Bay's sandy south coast are being hit particularly hard by the aggressive invasive reed, Phragmites australis. It grows 10 to 15 feet high and blocks out other native plant species
- Government agencies are spraying chemicals in an attempt to kill the invasive reed. Tilling the sand and then removing all traces of the root systems is a labour intensive, but successful and environmentally sound technique.
- Simcoe County is shipping contaminated leachate from dump sites to Georgian Bay sewage treatment plants. Leachate contains pharmaceuticals and leaked battery fluids and heavy metals that can harm aquatic life. These contaminants are being discharged untreated at increasing levels into Georgian Bay
