Deeply rooted and broadly drawn, Georgian Bay Forever is steered by lifelong devotees to the Bay. We are committed advocates, educators, environmentalists, realists, idealists, and of course, residents.

DIRECTORS

Brenda Drinkwalter
 

Brenda is a senior consultant in the areas of business strategy, communications, and community, government and regulatory relations. She has an MBA from York University and an Honours BSc in Biochemistry from Queen’s University. She is a past Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Canada and Latin America Region and Global Privacy Coordinator with IMS Health Limited and past President of the Canadian Drug Manufacturers Association. Prior to joining CDMA she was Vice President, Corporate Relations for Novopharm Ltd. and a pharmaceutical regulator with Health Canada. Brenda has completed the Institute of Corporate Director Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and has achieved the ICD.D certification as a Corporate Director. She has served on a number of for profit and not for profit Boards and is currently a Director of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board.


Peter Hatcher

Peter is Vice-President and Financial Advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy. He has been a Georgian Bay Cottager since 1969. Peter is the founder of the Sans Souci Tennis Club and past President of the Badminton and Racquet Club, Toronto. Peter serves on the Georgian Bay Forever fundraising and nominating committees.



Michael Hensel
 

Mike has been providing Environmental/Landscape Architectural and Project Management services to public and private sector clients across Ontario since 1981. His role throughout the several hundred projects he has completed has always been one of co-ordination either as a member of a team or team leader. Mike regularly co-ordinates interdisciplinary project teams to address a wide range of natural environment and associated site design/development issues. Since the 1980’s Mike has been working with clients to provide sustainable solutions for a wide variety of project challenges including Community Design. He was on the design team for the first “Green Home” built in Canada. He was also the project approvals coordinator for Camp Ki-wa-Y which displayed the latest in new technologies and land stewardship principles for children to interpret as a part of lessons on how to live more lightly upon the earth. In 1999, Mike was given the Carl Borgstrom Award for service to the environment by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects. Mike is also the recipient of several urban site plan and environmental awards for his work.



Hugh McLelland

Hugh is the founder, Chairman and CEO of the Queensbury Group which include Queensbury Securities Inc. - securities, Queensbury Securities Inc. - mutual funds and Queensbury Insurance Brokers Inc. He is an Honourary Life Member of the Georgian Bay Association and past president and former president of the Bay of Islands Community Association. He also serves on the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and on S.H.A.R.E. Agricultural Foundation as director and chair of the finance committee. Hugh is also Sous - Commanderie de Toronto in the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and has served as Président d’Admissions. Hugh is a member of the Governance Committee and chairs the nominating committee of Georgian Bay Forever.


Mary Muter

Mary has a public health background and immediately understood the implications of elevated levels of bacteria and nutrients found in nearshore waters and began water quality monitoring work on Georgian Bay in the early 1990s. Mary has participated in many aquatic ecology courses such as the importance and functions of wetlands. She works closely with scientists, government agencies and other ENGOs and has developed a deep knowledge base and a wide network of Great Lakes environmentalists in Canada and the U.S.A. Mary co-ordinates GBF's research and education projects. She serves as the link with McMaster University on our joint Wetlands Project that has identified 14,000 hectares of previously unidentified wetlands in eastern and northern Georgian Bay by using GBF high resolution satellite imagery and field studies. Mary is a speaker at many meetings, most recently along southern Georgian Bay where she is bringing local groups into the fold of GBF. Mary is the designated Georgian Baykeeper for the Waterkeeper Alliance, of which GBF is a member. She is a member of the Science and research committee and chairs the Water levels sub-committee.


David Parkes

David owns and operates David Parkes and Associates Inc, serves on the board of directors of Envoy Communications (TSX and Nasdaq) and Mitec Telecom Inc (TSX), and was an original board member of Microcell Communications. David is the former President & CEO of Sprint Cda. ,Look Communications & TeleSpectrum, and former EVP, Sales for Rogers Wireless. Previously, David served in executive-level positions at Cara Operations Ltd. and Versa Food Services. David has served as Chair, Fundraising Committee for Canadian Special Olympics, Chairman of Junior Achievement Metro Toronto, Director of JA Canada, Chair Property Committee for the Sans Souci and Copperhead Association, and numerous other community organizations. Currently David is the vice-chair of GBF and chairs the Fundraising Committee and is a member of the nominating committee of Georgian Bay Forever.

Roy Schatz

Roy is a retired educator and official of the Ontario Ministry of Education. Roy is the founding president and current secretary of GBF and past president of PABIA and the Georgian Bay Association. Roy is a member of the Communications and the Science and Research Committees of Georgian Bay Forever.




John Seagram

John is a retired financial executive and is currently a counsellor of the Township of the Archipelago. He is the former President of the Sans Souci & Copperhead Association and the Georgian Bay Recreational Water Quality Committee. He is the immediate past president and a long time board member of Georgian Bay Forever. John is a member of the Water Levels sub-committee.



Larry Ward, FCA

Larry is a retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and is currently a director of Independent Review Inc. and a member of six independent review committees of mutual fund organizations. He is a director of Breakfast for Learning and a past director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The Badminton and Racquet Club, Sunnybrook Foundation and several other not-for-profit organizations. He is a past director and president of the Honey Harbour Boat Club and a past director of the Cognashene Cottagers Association. He currently serves as Treasurer and chairs the Finance Committee of Georgian Bay Forever.


Scott White

Scott is the Editor-in-Chief of The Canadian Press. He is the past president and 15 year board member of the Georgian Bay Association. Scott is a fourth generation Georgian Bay cottager. Currently Scott chairs the Communications Committee of Georgian Bay Forever.




Hugh Wilkins LLB.,LLM.

Hugh is the coordinating lawyer, Ecojustice Canada (formerly Sierra Legal). He also serves as an adjunct professor Osgoode Hall in Natural Resources Law. Hugh has an active career in environmental law and has worked with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) (International) and other organisations. Hugh is the Managing Editor of the Review of European Community and International Environmental Law (RECIEL) which is published by Wiley/Blackwell and he is also a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law. Hugh serves on the Communication and Governance Committees for GBF.



Doug Wright

Doug is currently the Managing Director of the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Earth and Environmental Technologies. He was previously Director of Policy and Planning for the Nuclear Waste Management organization (NWMO), and Director of Programs for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of North America (CEC). Doug was a founding partner of a successful environmental policy consulting firm in Ottawa where he led assignments for CIDA, the IDRC, the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programs in China, Nepal, Pakistan, Cambodia and Jamaica. In Canada, Doug advised Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Industry Canada, Health and Welfare Canada, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and Finance Canada. Prior to this, Doug worked for several years with Environment Canada, Conservation and Protection, both in the Ontario Region and at Headquarters in Hull. Doug chairs the Science and Research Committee of Georgian Bay Forever.


Ex Officio Members
David Sweetnam

David is the Executive Director of Georgian Bay Forever. David was formerly Vice-President, intelliNet Technologies Inc., Senior Vice-President, Meridex Software Corporation; President and CEO, the Praxium Group; President and CEO, Sweetnam Consulting Inc.; and Director of EnviroHealth Caledon. Sweetnam holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo. He has spent years boating and camping throughout Georgian Bay and its waterways.
