Mid to Late 20th Century

A lot was happening in Ontario in the late 19th Century, for better or worse. In the age of the Second Industrial Revolution, or the Post The Canadian Pacific Railway was built, voting rights and freedoms for women, non-European immigrants, and Indigenous people were still limited, the Fur Trade era ended, and Bell Canada and the Stanley Cup began.

We would like to acknowledge that during this time, the federal government began officially funding residential schools under the mandate of the Indian Act of 1876. The tragic past and reprehensible legacy of this history is not forgotten, and we hope that some of these images will offer the chance to reflect on those who were here before us, and the impact of all our actions.

It is the responsibility of each Canadian to navigate their own journey of reconciliation, and understand that there is no one way or perfect way to proceed through that difficult journey.
