GBF 2021 - Phragmites Report

11 Truxors in Tay Township For the first time in Tay, these machines cut stands too large for volunteers ultimately removing 50,507 pounds of invasive Phragmites in three days. Truxors are large, amphibious machines that cut large, dense stands of Phragmites that are just too large for hand cutting. In 2018 and 2019, GBF brought truxors to Lily Pond in Honey Harbour, which has now been restored to a healthy, functioning wetland. In 2020 GBF brought the truxors to Delta Drive, Waubaushene and Calvert Park, Port McNicoll both in Tay Township. Thank you to Bin City and Tay Township for supplying bins for removal and a backhoe for easy loading. Looking forward to 2021, truxors will not have to return to Calvert Park or Delta Drive, but will focus on two new areas. Photo by Water Brothers Photo by Water Brothers
